Residents in Arsite, Abunu Kebele of Gomole Woreda, near Borena National Park in Ethiopia’s Oromia Region, are sounding the alarm over the deaths of birds and other wildlife caused by the use of chemicals in informal gold mining. The area’s endemic bird species and other wildlife are reportedly being killed off as a result of the toxic substances used in mining operations. This has raised serious concerns about the environmental impact and the need for stricter regulations to protect wildlife and their habitats.
