Over the past decade, an estimated 1.79 million women in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng provinces of South Africa have experienced abuse during childbirth. The findings, from a survey conducted by Social Surveys Africa and commissioned by the DG Murray Trust and Embrace, reveal that 490 women are mistreated daily during labor. Shockingly, only 34% of those affected recognized their treatment as wrong, and just 7% reported it. This highlights a critical issue in public maternity care and underscores the need for urgent action to protect women's rights and health.
