NCTO Faces Scrutiny Over Missing Payment Vouchers and Blocked Audits for ₦33.75 Billion Transfer
The National Cash Transfer Office (NCTO) in Nigeria has reported disbursing ₦33.75 billion to 3.29 million citizens across 35 states in 2023. However, the UDEME project of the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID) found that the NCTO lacks vouchers showing who received the funds. Additionally, the agency's accounts staff blocked auditors from reviewing the bank records that would confirm the actual payments. This raises serious questions about the transparency and accountability of the cash transfer program.
