Beyoncé’s BeyGOOD Foundation Awards Camp HBCYouth $25,000 to Empower Future Black Leaders

Beyoncé’s BeyGOOD Foundation has awarded Camp HBCYouth a $25,000 grant, providing crucial support for a program that introduces elementary school children to historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs). This funding is a significant step towards empowering the next generation of Black leaders and scholars by fostering an early interest in higher education.

Camp HBCYouth, founded by Reagan Fresnel and Brian Wright—both HBCU graduates—offers elementary students a unique opportunity to experience college life and educational activities. By exposing young students to the vibrant HBCU environment, the program aims to make higher education a tangible goal rather than an abstract concept. For many Black families, this early exposure is crucial in overcoming systemic barriers that have historically limited access to higher education.

The grant will help Camp HBCYouth expand its reach, employ more HBCU students as staff, and offer affordable options for families in need. This aligns with BeyGOOD’s broader mission to promote educational equity and highlight the transformative power of early college awareness programs. By bringing children to HBCU campuses, the program counters the narrative that college is unattainable and fosters a sense of possibility among young Black learners.

Partnerships with prominent HBCUs like Spelman College, Tennessee State University, Morehouse College, Clark Atlanta University, and Morgan State University further solidify the program’s impact. These collaborations ensure that students have access to diverse educational experiences and role models within the HBCU community. The program’s curriculum, which includes STEAM activities, literacy, and critical thinking, is designed to nurture the skills needed for academic success and personal development.

The grant also underscores the importance of financial support in making these opportunities accessible to all. For families facing economic challenges, such funding can be the difference between a child experiencing the excitement of a college campus and missing out on this formative exposure. By investing in Camp HBCYouth, BeyGOOD is not only supporting a program but also reinforcing the value of HBCUs in shaping the futures of Black children.

Ultimately, this initiative is part of a larger movement to empower Black youth and provide them with the tools and inspiration to pursue higher education. It highlights the critical role that community support, mentorship, and early intervention play in breaking down barriers to academic achievement. Through programs like Camp HBCYouth, we are nurturing a generation of students who see HBCUs not just as options, but as destinations for their academic and personal growth.
